Cattery Attendant
Humane Society for Hamilton County (Fishers, IN)
Pay: $15.00/hour
Help cats feel safe, healthy, and seen—every single day.
At the Humane Society for Hamilton County, caring for animals isn’t just a job—it’s a purpose. If you want your work to matter, love being hands-on, and thrive in a busy environment full of purrs, meows, movement, and mission… this role is for you.
As a Cattery Attendant, you’ll support the Cattery Manager by providing exceptional daily care for the cats in our beautiful, state-of-the-art facility—keeping spaces clean, monitoring health, supporting enrichment, and helping each cat move one step closer to a loving home.
What You’ll Do
- Conducting daily walkthroughs, checking each cat for signs of illness or abnormal behavior (vomiting, diarrhea, blood, lethargy, etc.)
- Reporting concerns immediately and documenting notes in medical binders as needed
- Recognizing urgent situations and alerting supervisors/veterinary staff quickly
- Feeding and watering cats according to schedules and protocols
- Cleaning and disinfecting cages/runs and maintaining a high standard of sanitation (odor-free, low-stress environment)
- Cleaning and disinfecting food/water bowls
- Managing bedding (removing soiled bedding, transporting to laundry, replacing with clean bedding)
- Assisting with medication administration when medical staff needs support
- Handling cats safely and confidently, including restraint when necessary
- Identifying cats who may need behavior support and communicating needs appropriately
- Safely moving cats between carriers and enclosures
- Assisting kennel staff with cat tests as needed
- Supporting adoption showings with friendly, professional customer service
- Maintaining HSHC equipment and completing other duties as assigned
You’re a Great Fit If You…
- Embrace our No-Kill Philosophy
- Be a self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and minimal-supervision success
- Communicate clearly (written and verbal) and escalate concerns appropriately
- Be a positive, diplomatic team partner—someone who motivates others naturally
- Be flexible for nights/weekends
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment. This is active, hands-on shelter work. You’ll be on your feet, cleaning, moving cats and supplies, and shifting priorities based on what the animals need that day. The environment includes noise, strong smells, and allergens—because animal care is real life.
