Lead with Heart. Build a Lifesaving Program.

At the Humane Society for Hamilton County (HSHC), caring for animals isn’t just a job — it’s a calling. Every life we save is proof that compassion, organization, and leadership can create miracles.

We’re seeking a Foster Program Manager — a people-centered leader who can grow our foster network, guide staff and volunteers, and ensure that every animal who needs a temporary home finds one.

If you love animals, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and want your leadership to directly impact lives, this is your chance to make a measurable difference every single day.

Your Mission

As Foster Program Manager, you’ll oversee the daily operations and long-term growth of our Foster Program, supervising one direct report and partnering across departments to place animals in safe, nurturing homes.

You will:

  • Lead and mentor the Foster Coordinator to ensure smooth day-to-day operations
  • Recruit, train, and retain foster families through creative outreach and community partnerships
  • Build and maintain foster databases, reports, and performance metrics
  • Create manuals, orientations, and ongoing training materials for foster caregivers
  • Partner with medical and behavior teams to place animals in appropriate homes
  • Track foster animal medical care, appointments, and records in PetPoint
  • Promote the foster program in partnership with our Marketing team
  • Organize recognition initiatives for foster families and volunteers
  • Manage foster supplies, ordering, and inventory
  • Develop new programs to support at-risk animal populations
  • Represent HSHC’s mission with compassion, professionalism, and integrity

  • Strong animal-handling knowledge for dogs and cats; comfort with medical and neonatal care
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, PetPoint, and data/reporting systems
  • Skilled at multitasking, prioritizing, and leading others in a high-volume environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication — able to connect with fosters, adopters, staff, and the public
  • Organized, resourceful, and solutions-oriented — you don’t just identify problems; you fix them

Education & Background

  • Previous supervisory experience required
  • Ability to evaluate animal wellness (basic exams, vaccines, medication administration)
  • Euthanasia certification preferred (or willingness to obtain; HSHC will fund training)

Personal Qualities

  • Passionate about animal welfare and committed to HSHC’s no-kill philosophy
  • Emotionally resilient and empathetic — able to stay composed during challenging situations
  • High integrity, positive attitude, and “whatever it takes” mindset
