What You’ll Do
You’ll be the right hand to our Shelter Veterinarian and Lead Surgery Coordinator, supporting clinical surgeries, post-op recovery, and the coordination of care for some of our most vulnerable animals. This role blends hands-on veterinary support with administrative organization to ensure surgical needs are met with accuracy and urgency.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing animals and the operating room for surgeries
- Assisting during procedures and monitoring vitals
- Ensuring proper post-operative care, documentation, and medication delivery
- Coordinating surgery schedules and prioritizing adopted animals for timely release
- Overseeing the cleanliness and readiness of the surgery suite
- Maintaining medical records and ensuring compliance with controlled substance protocols
- Providing guidance to supporting staff during surgical procedures
- Assisting with critical care plans, special cases, and outsourced specialty treatments
What You Bring
Experience & Credentials
- Clinical surgery experience (intubation, IVs, anesthesia, wound care, etc.)
- Prior veterinary or shelter medicine background required
- RVT certification a plus, but not required
- Proficient in PetPoint, Microsoft Office, and medical data entry
- Strong skills in animal handling—including fearful, reactive, or fractious pets
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and stay on your feet for extended shifts
