Foster Program Manager
Foster Program Manager - Animal Shelter
Some of our animals aren’t ready for the adoption floor yet. They need a home first. You’ll be the one who finds it.
Humane Society for Hamilton County | Fishers, INStarting at $48,000/year | Full-Time
Neonatal kittens who need a bottle every few hours. Dogs healing from surgery. Shy cats who need a quiet couch before they can shine. For these animals, a foster home is where saving a life starts, and every placement depends on someone who knows which family is the right fit. We’re looking for a Foster Program Manager with shelter know-how, a leader’s heart, and a gift for building relationships.
As our Foster Program Manager, you’ll run our foster program from start to finish. You’ll lead our two Foster Program Coordinators, review applications every day, and match each animal with the family best set up to care for them. You’ll keep each animal’s medical care on track while they’re in foster, through rechecks, boosters and specialist visits. You’ll also recruit and keep great foster families, train them to succeed, and team up with marketing to find homes for urgent cases. When a foster parent has a question at a hard moment, you’ll be the steady voice they call. It’s people-first, animal-first work you’ll go home proud of, every single night.
It’s fast-paced. Some days will test you. Kittens who need bottle feeding don’t keep business hours, and you’ll be on the after-hours emergency phone in a weekly rotation. But if you’ve been waiting for a career that finally means something, this is it.
You might be the one if you:
- Have worked in a shelter or rescue foster program (or something very close to it)
- Have managed or supervised a team, and you enjoy training people and helping them grow
- Can handle dogs and cats confidently, ideally in a shelter or veterinary setting
- Are comfortable with wellness exams: weighing, checking hydration, vaccines, deworming, blood draws, microchipping, basic triage and giving medications
- Have cared for neonatal kittens, including bottle feeding and special or medical diets
- Are euthanasia certified, or open to getting certified (HSHC pays for the training)
- Are highly organized, know Microsoft Office, and have used shelter software like PetPoint (a major plus)
- Are a people person who builds strong relationships with fosters, adopters, staff and volunteers
- Are flexible to work weekends, some holidays, and the occasional late night when an animal needs you
- Believe every life is worth saving—our No-Kill Philosophy is who we are
What’s in it for you:
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance, plus 401(k) matching
- Vacation and PTO accruing from day one
- Certifications and professional development funded by HSHC
- Discounted care and free supplies for your own pets
- A team that shows up for the same reason you will
