Medical Intake Coordinator

Humane Society for Hamilton County Starting Pay: $19.00–$22.00 per hour

At the Humane Society for Hamilton County, caring for animals is not just what we do—it is who we are.

Every day, our team helps animals move from uncertainty to safety, from illness to healing, and from shelter to home. If you are looking for work that is hands-on, fast-paced, deeply meaningful, and centered on making a real difference, this may be the opportunity for you.

We are seeking a Medical Intake Coordinator to join our team in our beautiful, state-of-the-art facility. In this role, you will be an essential part of the medical intake process, helping ensure animals are medically assessed, treated, and moved efficiently through the next steps of care and adoption readiness. This is a critical role for someone who combines strong veterinary skills with calm judgment, compassion, and the ability to thrive in an active shelter environment.

What You Will Do

As a Medical Intake Coordinator, you will play a key role in supporting the daily medical operations of the shelter and helping animals receive timely, appropriate care. Responsibilities include:

  • Processing incoming animals in accordance with HSHC medical protocols
  • Conducting routine exams, vaccines, tests, and treatments
  • Administering medications, SQ fluids, and other supportive care
  • Monitoring the general health of the shelter population daily
  • Drawing blood, microchipping, and giving preventatives
  • Entering accurate medical and animal data into PetPoint and other systems
  • Assisting with medical and behavioral counseling
  • Supporting surgery operations as needed, including patient prep, induction to recovery support, radiographs, and treatment assistance
  • Opening, cleaning, and turning over surgical rooms and instruments
  • Collaborating with veterinary staff, managers, and other departments to support treatment plans and workflow
  • Responding calmly and effectively in emergency or high-stress situations
  • Participating in an on-call rotation for after-hours, weekend, and holiday emergencies
  • Performing humane euthanasia when approved by medical leadership, operations leadership, or the President/CEO
